Unique Dyno - 1969 Porsche 911

Being one of the few shops in our area operating two seperate dynos, we sometimes get a call to rent our dyno for a not so common vehicle. Believe it or not, but seeing GT-Rs on the dyno every week can become dull when you work here. But when someone calls to ask to dyno their 1969 Porsche 911 used for spec vintage racing? Yeah, that's something everyone at SPE looks forward to seeing.

The owner of this beautiful 1969 Porsche 911 with a 1974 RSR body is named Matthew. I guess it makes sense, but Matthew is just as cool and oldschool (well he's not that old) as the car he's driving. With a background in racing Porsche 944s, Spec Miatas and many other series, he's not your average PCH cruising 991 Porsche guy. The reason for getting this car on the dyno was because of the vintage spec series he'll be racing the car in. Horsepower is a factor in which class he will be placed in.

After listening to some of Matthew's Nurburgring and other oldschool racing stories (he was racing on the Nurburgring before it was cool), it was time for the dyno. This particular car is running an air cooled 3.4L flat six. Naturally aspirated means high revs and an exhaust note that destroyed my ears when I attempted to capture video footage.

The purpose of the dyno was for Porsche Club of America which is holding an event this upcoming weekend at Laguna Seca. Classing is dependent on multiple factors including horsepower which must be signed off by a shop such as our own. Overall, we welcome different cars such as this Porsche. With both an AWD and 2WD dyno within our facility, we are able to get you numbers on just about any car with four wheels.
