Alex Shen, the owner of SP Engineering (SPE), founded this company in 1996, about one-year after purchasing his 1995 six-speed, alpine silver MKIV Supra turbo. Shen’s interest in the Supra began with his ownership of a white MKIII turbo and blossomed into a full-blown love affair with the purchase of his MKIV. With 2010 marking the beginning of SPE’s 14th year of existence, it is easy to see how Supras, the MKIV version in particular, have contributed to the success of SPE as a company. In honor of the Supra’s role in the growth and development of SPE, Alex has determined that a Supra Appreciation Day on Saturday, February 6, 2010 would be the best way to celebrate the car we all know and love and to give back to the community that has been so instrumental in the growth of his company.

Let’s get this out of the way right up front. Supras FROM ALL GENERATIONS are welcome and invited to this event. Other car enthusiasts are also welcome, but the preferred, on-site parking is reserved for Supras only. At present, the event is projected to begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. This time is subject to change so please subscribe to this thread so you will be sure to receive all updates in a timely manner. Rather than being tied down by a never ending series on honey-do’s, on February 6, 2010, you can come out and see some of the nicest Supras in the country, and I’m not just talking about the Display Cars. Southern California is home to the greatest concentration of Supras in the country and many of the nicest will be present at this event.

Speaking of Display Cars, here’s what we have on tap so far (all cars built and tuned by SPE):
1. The winner of the SILV06 “Best Stock Body” award owned by Chip Schwartz (Lagtime on SF);

2. The “Clash of the Titans II” 4-inch exhaust shoot-out car owned by Ju-Hon Chan (8Wasabe on SF);

3. Preston Ebert’s (1badmofo on SF) RSP beauty, winner of the SILV08 “Director’s Choice” award;

4. Steve Wilson’s first-in-the-country NA-Single Turbo car featured in Import Tuner magazine (Yes, 192 whp to 632 whp in one fell swoop! supramd on SF);

5. Arseto Wijaya’s menacing, murdered out, super-clean, 12K mile, 1997 black beauty with HKS twins and a sweet V161 six-speed tranny (NITECRUISER on SF);

6. Return of the Prodigal Son: Louie Altobelli’s black with suede interior chariot, with the oh-so-rare HKS TO4Z, dual ball-bearing single turbo upgrade and one-off IForged wheels (Supra557hp on SF);

7. Ken Henderson’s Renaissance Red BPU monster, more popularly known as “Eau Rouge” and featured in a supporting role in Japanese Performance magazine; and,

8. Ken Henderson’s “Blackie”, the MKIV Supra turbo most closely tied to SPE, winner of eight individual awards at the SILV National Supra Meet, featured in nine magazine articles, including two covers, and one book and one of the most famous MKIV Supras in the world (KenHenderson on SF).

Several other SPE-built cars have been invited as well, so stay tuned to this thread for more updates in this regard.

FOOD & DRINK: We don’t expect you to spend your valuable time on a Saturday morning and afternoon without proper sustenance. As a result, we will be having a very nice BBQ and other foodstuffs, with plenty of sodas and water available to help with your food digestion programs. You can help tremendously by committing to attend this special event and signing up for it in this thread. Please do not sign up for this event if you are uncertain about your attendance. It is very important that food and drinks are in more than adequate supply and this cannot be accomplished if people flake when it comes to this event. Only put your name down (and those of friends accompanying you) if you know for certain you will be attending this event.

RAFFLES & SPONSORSHIPS: Japanese aftermarket powerhouses HKS and GReddy will be in attendance and offering products at too-low-to-publish prices. Certain products will be in limited quantities. In addition certain products that appear to be available today may not be available on February 6, 2010 so there will be no published lists of HKS and GReddy products that will be available at the event. To know for sure what will be available, you will have to attend this event. The SPE crew will be working hard to identify the HKS and GReddy product that will be available and, if we can determine for certain what will be available on February 6, 2010, this thread will be updated accordingly.

What we know for sure will be available is the full catalog of TiTek carbon fiber parts for the JZA80. One piece of every TiTek production piece will be available to the lucky winners of affected raffles. That means TiTek carbon fiber gauge pods, versions 1 and 2, Kansai-style lip spoilers and cooling plates, among other products will be available to be raffled off and purchased. WINNERS WILL HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO RECEIVE THEIR TiTeK PRODUCTS.

OTHER EYE CANDY: Ever seen a twin-turbo Lamborghini Gallardo up close and personal? How about a twin-turbo Lamborghini LP 640? Come to this event and you will see both, plus a 775 whp Nissan R35 GTR and some absolutely outrageous company-owned and SPE customer cars. If you’re car guys and girls—face it, aren’t we all—this event is a must attend for car enthusiast of all types and stripes.
