BOWLS LA is a small shop with a BIG name, headquartered in San Marino, CA. This shop owned by Brandon and Ryan Leung has been open since 2006, and has catered to all walks of life. BOWLS LA specializes in hard to find street wear by the likes of The Hundreds, Crooks and Castles, New Era, Rogue Status, In4mation, and Stussy to name a few. In addition to their apparel line they also carry fresh kicks from SUPRA, Creative Recreation, and DC Life, and accessories such as the much sought after limited G-Shock watches for both men and women.
Not only is their store front packed with goodies, but window shoppers and passersby’s alike take notice to the little scooters that manage to be showcased in front of the shop. These 50cc scooters are designed by Honda and are called the Ruckus in the states, and the Zoomer out in Japan. From the factory they’re not much to look at, but after dropping by BOWLS, you can completely accessorize them just like how most of us started with our imports. In CA it is required to wear a helmet, and have a valid motorcycle license in order to ride these on the streets. They can reach up to 50mph after a few minor modifications, and are driven only on the streets. The popularity of these scooters has become a phenomenon as people mod them to their own liking. BOWLS jumped on the opportunity to be one of the first few shops in the states to start modding these, and have become well known in the Ruckus community. At BOWLS you have the option of purchasing your own accessories, or BOWLS also offers custom builds where they take care of everything for you. (Custom builds are limited to time available upon request. Actual Ruckus’ are not sold on premises)
Brandon is no stranger to the automotive community either. Previously working for the likes of Mackin Industries, and HKS USA has given Brandon much insight on past, and future trends. In 2009, BOWLS was requested to be one of the main contenders in the 2009 Scion Tuner Challenge for the SEMA show. They were instructed to take a 2010 Scion XB, and mod it to their liking with a set budget, and a little over 2 months to complete the build. They essentially took the XB, chopped off and elongated the tail end, and the rest is customization history! One off ADF wheels were hand made, along with a custom grill that reflects both ADF and BOWLS logos in a mirror like image, and an exclusive hand blown glass shift knob that was color matched identically to the car. The creativity, hard work, and attention to detail resulted in a finished product that was second to none, and it definitely exuded just that. Along with the customized XB was a tailor made Honda Ruckus. The Honda Ruckus was color matched as well, and featured a slew of aftermarket products that BOWLS carries. BOWLS took home a very impressive 2nd place at the SEMA show, and may have started what could be a trend for the next Scion truck!
