SP ENGINEERING BUILDS FASTEST GTR’S IN THE WORLD

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

dsc_0011

The day started off at 7:30am with the opening of the gates to Arizona’s Speedworld Dragstrip. We were greeted by the owner, Bernie, who allowed us to privately rent the track for the day. We were accompanied by the Greddy crew, and our good customer Hing who is also the owner of the black GTR. The day emitted a warm 72 degrees, with a track temp of 120 degrees.

Both GTR’s began their runs without launch control to see what times they could pull up. SPE’s GTR managed to pull in a 10.77@145mph time, while Hing ran a 10.76@135mph time. In neglecting to utilize the launch control in the first few runs, we were given a good understanding of the current suspension setup. As the morning progressed we were able to tweak our settings to perfectly balance both cars for optimum performance. After finalizing the calibrations we were able to run 9 second consistent passes throughout the day.

Hing started his runs with 20″ Volk Racing G2 wheels with Nitto drag radials which culminated a best pass of 9.96 seconds, and then substituted them for 18″ Volk Racing TE37’s wrapped in the Mickey Thompson drag radials. That setup allowed Hing to conquer a 9.84 second quarter mile pass.

Designed with precision in mind, coupled with a super lightweight dry carbon shell, and perforated leather…these seats are truly a work of craftsmanship! Batman would be proud!

And SP Engineering has got the hook up!!

Just in! Greddy DCT Transmission Cooler!

Friday, May 14th, 2010

We just received our shipment of Greddy DCT Coolers, and have installed the very first one on our SPE900 project car.

The parts look absolutely amazing, and the attention to detail is second to none. The satin black hoses resemble those of Earls, and feature the Greddy logo on each end. The cooler itself looks like it was designed with precision, and painted an awesome blue that looks closely related to Cobalt blue. A water reservoir, FRP intake duct, and misc hardware round off the kit.

Spec R Magazine Taiwan

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

Spec R Magazine is a publication out in Taiwan that features an arrange of vehicles from street, drag, drift, and even exotics. This magazine pretty much covers what 4 or 5 magazines in the states are able to cover all in one 300 page paperback. The kind folks at Spec R decided to link up with us for a 6 page feature of our SP35 GTR. They were extremely courteous and friendly. They also took shots of our LP640-TT which hasn’t been featured yet, but we hope to see it shine through soon!

Bossman even got some celebrity paparazzi shots in there, and yes…it does say Greedy instead of Greddy

Formula Drift: Long Beach Event Coverage

Monday, April 12th, 2010

Formula Drift Long Beach was a great turnout.

We started early at 7am with our LP640-TT and R35 GTR ready to go. All that was needed was a cup of Starbucks, a chest filled with the “usual suspects”, and our personnel. We were able to hit the road by 7:40, and got into Long Beach in record breaking time. We were greeted by a ballsy Porsche GT3 upon entering the 710 freeway that made himself known by downshifting twice, but by the time he reached his second gear our LP and GTR were already 1.5 miles ahead of him. Maybe next time?

The morning proved eventful, and setup was a breeze. The line at the entrance started to get pretty long well before the show’s opening time. The day progressed with many onlookers that seemed to be drawn by the only Lamborghini in attendance. Unfortunately we had some slight disturbances with attendees actually touching the cars, which we had to ward off. Next time we will need to set up barriers for our showcased cars.

With most of the morning overcast, and most of the afternoon sunny with a high of about 65 degrees it was perfect weather for the outdoor event. We had plenty of fun, and would like to thank everyone who came out. We would also like to thank the folks at Greddy, HKS, APR, Pro Motion, and our two beautiful models for keeping us well entertained! See you at the next event!!

Featured Shop: BOWLS LA

Monday, March 15th, 2010

BOWLS LA is a small shop with a BIG name, headquartered in San Marino, CA. This shop owned by Brandon and Ryan Leung has been open since 2006, and has catered to all walks of life. BOWLS LA specializes in hard to find street wear by the likes of The Hundreds, Crooks and Castles, New Era, Rogue Status, In4mation, and Stussy to name a few. In addition to their apparel line they also carry fresh kicks from SUPRA, Creative Recreation, and DC Life, and accessories such as the much sought after limited G-Shock watches for both men and women.

Not only is their store front packed with goodies, but window shoppers and passersby’s alike take notice to the little scooters that manage to be showcased in front of the shop. These 50cc scooters are designed by Honda and are called the Ruckus in the states, and the Zoomer out in Japan. From the factory they’re not much to look at, but after dropping by BOWLS, you can completely accessorize them just like how most of us started with our imports. In CA it is required to wear a helmet, and have a valid motorcycle license in order to ride these on the streets. They can reach up to 50mph after a few minor modifications, and are driven only on the streets. The popularity of these scooters has become a phenomenon as people mod them to their own liking. BOWLS jumped on the opportunity to be one of the first few shops in the states to start modding these, and have become well known in the Ruckus community. At BOWLS you have the option of purchasing your own accessories, or BOWLS also offers custom builds where they take care of everything for you. (Custom builds are limited to time available upon request. Actual Ruckus’ are not sold on premises)

Brandon is no stranger to the automotive community either. Previously working for the likes of Mackin Industries, and HKS USA has given Brandon much insight on past, and future trends. In 2009, BOWLS was requested to be one of the main contenders in the 2009 Scion Tuner Challenge for the SEMA show. They were instructed to take a 2010 Scion XB, and mod it to their liking with a set budget, and a little over 2 months to complete the build. They essentially took the XB, chopped off and elongated the tail end, and the rest is customization history! One off ADF wheels were hand made, along with a custom grill that reflects both ADF and BOWLS logos in a mirror like image, and an exclusive hand blown glass shift knob that was color matched identically to the car. The creativity, hard work, and attention to detail resulted in a finished product that was second to none, and it definitely exuded just that. Along with the customized XB was a tailor made Honda Ruckus. The Honda Ruckus was color matched as well, and featured a slew of aftermarket products that BOWLS carries. BOWLS took home a very impressive 2nd place at the SEMA show, and may have started what could be a trend for the next Scion truck!

If you’re ever in the San Gabriel Valley area and need some new threads or want to fix up your Honda Ruckus, please do stop by. You will be greeted with friendly, and knowledgeable service by store manager Paul who also acts as head tech for their Ruckus division. Or visit their online store linked below for online orders!
