Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

SP Engineering is proud to announce our 3 tiers of tuning solutions for the R35 GTR VR38DETT. After months of R&D and tuning performance upgrades for the GTR, SP Engineering has enhanced every aspect of the R35 from raising the factory boost levels to upgrading the factory turbo system. Utilizing both of our in-house AWD Mustang Dyno and 2WD Dynojet, we have been able to design the perfect tuning map to suit whichever package fits your needs. Each package has been specially put together for one primary purpose; to extract the appropriate amount of power from your motor, without sacrificing safety and reliability.

GTR Meet Event Coverage

Monday, September 21st, 2009

Our first annual GTR Meet was such a success thanks to everyone who helped, attended, and supported us throughout the years!

We are truly honored to have such loyal customers, vendors, and friends, and we thank everyone who took the time to come out and enjoy this occasion with us!

The day began almost immediately with a couple R32’s showing up when we were still getting set up. Before 10am hit we already had about 6 GTR’s lined up, and soon after everyone followed suit. Half our parking lot was filled before noon, and most of the cars didnt end up leaving until 3pm. We hope everyone enjoyed the GTR’s on display, touring the SP facility, watching the dyno runs, and the music and food provided!

If you were unable to get a chance to check out our GTR Meet tees, they are featured here on sp-power and on NAGTROC. Please contact a sales representative if you are interested in purchasing one!

Once again, thank you, and we hope to see everyone before the next GTR Meet!

GTR Week: Day 5 – SP35

Friday, September 18th, 2009

SP has been known to crank out some of the fastest cars on the track as well as in the streets. The SP35 proves that we will not settle for anything less.

Once news hit the US that the Nissan GTR was going to be released on this side of the Pacific, word spread like wildfire, and immediately we new we had to capitalize on this momentous occasion. It has been 1 year since its launch onto US soil, and the R35 is still being declared as one of the fastest production cars ever built; winning several awards.

Throughout the past year we have had several R35 owners come to us to upgrade their GTRs. Why? Well because they know the quality of our work, the knowledge that our techs possess on the GTR alone, and the proof that we exhibit through our very own cars.

The SP35 is a force to be reckoned with. Equipped with the finest upgrades. Appearing exquisite, yet aggressive. And having the honor of being the very first in the US to have the Greddy TD06H Twin Turbo 20G Kit installed, which helped us put down 707awhp on our 4wd Mustang Dyno with stock internals.

The white pearl paint is tastefully accentuated by the subtle carbon fiber additions provided by Titek USA. A front lip, side skirts, rear exhaust shrouds, rear trunk spoiler, antenna cover, fender grill inserts, hood vents, and grill give that extra elegance to the appearance. A set of HKS Hipermax III coilovers were installed not only for appearance, but for functionality as well. The lower center of gravity, stiffer spring rates, and adjustable dampening helps the GTR’s stability and traction when needed. Staggered 20 inch gunmetal BBS LM wheels also aid in traction control, and are probably one of the best looking wheels to ever grace the R35.

The cabin was left relatively stock, except for a pair of Bride Low Max Gias (Gai-uhs), a few HKS electronics including an EVC, and AFK unit hidden in the center console, and some carbon fiber trimmings.

The engine bay is really where the fun is at! The stock VR38DETT boasts the aggressive Greddy TD06H 20G twin turbo kit. These turbines are approx 2 inches bigger than the factory turbos, which help house more spool. A Greddy intercooler w/ piping kit, 2x Type R wastegate, and 2x BOV complete the Greddy setup. All exhausts are forced through a Titek Titanium RACE midpipe, and out via a Titek Titanium RACE exhaust system. The pairing of the Greddy twins and the Titek piping sounds unlike anything you’ve ever heard. The orchestrated sound of the turbos spooling, and the throaty RACE exhaust will definitely have you in an euphoric state of mind.

We would like to give special thanks to Greddy for working closely with us and their support through this project.

GTR Week: Day 3 – SP33

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

I think every tuner has held a special place in their heart for the Nissan Skyline. Just the name Nissan Skyline usually grabs peoples’ attention. I know I have always held a special obsession with the GTR, especially the R33. And when people go out of their way to smuggle these guys in…you know you’ve got yourself a jewel.

Before the big production began, this 1996 Nissan Skyline GTR had met its fate with a wall on the Fontana drag strip. This unfortunate incident only gave more reason to build one of the baddest GTR’s in the States.

Once back at SP, the motor was dropped for some heavy modifications. The skilled artwork by our chief tech Hiro has definitely shown us a different side of what the RB26 is capable of. Ultimately, the RB was completely dismantled in order to engineer it into the beast it has now become. Rather than being complacent with the 2.6 factory liters, the block was bored from 86 to 87mm to advance the displacement to 2.8 liters. HKS internals bombarded both the head and block enabling higher rpm competency, faster turbo spool, and stronger bottom end power.

As soon as the motor was reassembled and tuned, the newly revamped RB was taken back to the track, and was able to pull a 10 second track time.

Since then, the R33 has gone under new ownership, as well as new turbos. The GTR was brought back to SP to have a pair of twin Greddy T571Z’s bartered for a single HKS T51, which definitely brought back memories prior to its fateful accident.

I’ve always loved how the entire body of the R33 has invariably appeared insanely aggressive. It’s a flawless image of a well designed Japanese muscle car; so much in fact, that during its ownership under SP Engineering’s head honcho Alex Shen, the only aerodynamic addition made was a Do-Luck front lip. The only other cosmetic additions made were the 17″ Bronze Volk Racing TE37s, and the Tein Type RE coilovers which give this R33 a more aggressive posture.

The cabin was also kept clean only with the addition of the Bride Gias reclining buckets, Defi and HKS gauges, and Personal steering wheel.

There is no doubt in my mind that the GTR will outlive its legacy, and continue its heritage as being Japan’s one and only true muscle car.
